Online fundraisers are popular, but not always successful

The Internet has become an open door for people seeking the money to treat costly medical procedures or help a loved one going through their own hardship. Websites, such as GoFundMe, created in San Diego in 2010, raised nearly half a million dollars from 6 billion contributors since it was first launched.
