Dentist gets probation, jail time for drug offenses, writing prescriptions to non-patients

Dr. Bruce Purmell, a former Summit Township dentist, was sentenced to 36 months probation and four weekends in jail for writing prescriptions for painkillers and sedatives to non-patients. Purmell pleaded guilty to four counts of manufacturing, delivering or possessing with the intent to deliver less than 50 grams of controlled substances and has admitted to drug addiction.
