Watching with an almost prurient fascination the tragic plunge of a sister institution - because the newspaper industry is cutting a path that the book industry will follow - I've noticed a subtle shift over the past few weeks from discussions of how to save newspapers to discussions of how to replace them. Today, as the leading paper in my own major city, the 131-year-old Boston Globe , faces its absolute, final deadline for a deal to avoid a shutdown, I decided to put forth here a small analysis of technical developments that could exploit the potential of the Internet to help us carry on where journalists have battled for us over the centuries.

On Native GroundDO Conservatives Hate Obama More Than they Love America?

When my savvy editor Joe Shea ran the latest eblasts of rumor and innuendo by me I rolled my eyes but promised to check out the big "secret" reserves.

Is it advisable to use mouthwash to get rid of bad breath?

Dear Dentist, Can mouth wash get rid of my bad breath? If yes, what types are good for this condition? Arnold, Kampala Bad breath is an oral condition that bothers many people either periodically or persistently, depending on the causes. On Native GroundDO Conservatives Hate Obama More Than they Love America?

NEW YORK, Oct. 16, 2009 -- In the conspiratorial world it goes something like this: "the largest oil and gas reserves in the world are in - pick a state, usually North Dakota, Montana, Alaska - "but the devious" - Arabs, automakers, politicians, environmentalists - "are conspiring with the news media to bury the news." Turning 59 ... the tooth, er ... truth hurts

I celebrated by having my semi-annual visit to the hygienist and dentist - how's that for fun stuff to do on your birthday? When I scheduled the appointment last year, the hygienist said "will April 14th at 9:00 a.m. work for you?"
