The state filed a civil complaint Dec. 31 against a Rockport dentist, claiming he submitted fraudulent statements about dental work provided to patients in order to receive reimbursements from the state's MaineCare program, and prescribed an excessive amount of pain medication without appropriate documentation. Daniel P. Schecter, D.M.D., is listed as the defendant in a case brought by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services on three counts: False Claims Act, payment by mistake of fact, and unjust enrichment.
