Young offenders incarcerated at Topeka's juvenile detention facility are learning technical skills to make them more marketable and less likely to get into trouble after they are released. Steve Dackman, principal of the facility's Lawrence Gardner High School, said class options include basic electrical work, carpentry and production technology, which covers basic manufacturing skills and safety, allowing them to earn a certification from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
