At Halloween, protect kids' teeth; prevent school absences

Special to the Tribune Did you know that tooth decay is among the most common health issues affecting young children, and that dental disease is one of the leading causes of school absence? The Arizona Department of Health Services estimates that 1 in 3 children ages 4 and younger have experienced tooth decay; be the time they reach kindergarten, half of all children have experienced tooth decay. In addition, only 6 percent of children had seen a dentist by age 1, as recommended by the American Dental Association.
