Figures have revealed that just 5% of Brits living 1,800 years ago suffered from periodontitis, compared with up to 30% of us living today Brits living 1,800 years ago suffered far less gum disease than they do today even though toothbrushes and dentists had not been invented. Scientists who studied hundreds of skulls from 200AD found just 5% showed signs of moderate to severe periodontitis - which affects up to 30% of Brits today.
